Listening, Speech and Language Program @ Cataract Foundation's hEARing Center

Who does the therapy?
  • Teacher of the Deaf
  • Speech Pathology Assistant
  • Volunteer Speech Pathologist
What does the service involve?
  • Assessment
Observing and testing your child's skills (listen, talk, gesture, sign, etc.)
Getting information from you about your child's skills and areas of difficulty

  • Discussion
Decide if therapy or home activities would work better for you

THERAPY
  • (generally) 1 hour per week at the Center
  • at least 1 adult from your family must join the session with your child to learn activities for home
  • daily home practice of activities learned in therapy session
  • therapy is offered in blocks of about 6 sessions. after the block is complete, there is a break of 3 weeks. during this time we determine with you if and when the next therapy block will start.
  • therapy stops when therapy goals have been met, or if everyone believes that no further progress is possible. management reserves the right to make the final decision about when therapy services cease.
HOME ACTIVITIES
  • report is written based on assessment session and discussion
  • ideas for activities to do at home to help develop your child's communication skills
  • daily practice of activities provided in report
  • another assessment session can be requested to review progress of home activities
What does it cost?
  • P300 per session (same cost for assessment and therapy)
Who is the service for?
  • children under the age of 10 only
  • referral can come from anyone (you DO NOT need a referral from a Doctor)
  • those with suspected or diagnosed hearing impairment are given first priority
  • children with other issues may also be seen, but only after negotiation with Management
Appointments
  • you must make appointments for all assessments and therapy sessions
  • assessment can be accommodated for walk in patients especially if out of Bacolod City

Cataract Foundation's hEARing Center

The ear and hearing services of Cataract Foundation Philippines, Inc. was constructed middle of 2003 to house state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and management of hearing impairment around the region. Cataract Foundation spent around 1.5m pesos for the building to ensure that the structure complied with the given standard of a soundproof facility. Renovation and construction started in the later part of May and was completed on July 30, 2003.
