EYE hEAR Foundation, Inc. (formerly Cataract Foundation Philippines, Inc.) started in 1992 with a MISSION: Eliminate avoidable blindness and a VISION that no one should go needlessly blind. Having been exposed to the poorest communities in the country, we found out that the concerns regarding hearing impairment is 3 times bigger than vision impairment. Thus, in 2003 our hEARing Center was born to respond to the Prevention of Deafness and Hearing Impairment.

Childhood Blindness

We have done:

440 cataract cases

20 glaucoma cases

14 ROP cases

205 major surgeries

180 minor surgeries

A TOTAL of 859 sight restorations done.

ROP Laser Program

We continue our partnership with Retina Specialist, Dr. Jose Melvin Jimenez who treats ROP cases. For 2009 we were able to reverse blindness in 14 high risk premature infants. These babies went through laser sessions in St. Luke’s Medical Center. The costs are quite high and expected to double this 2010 but the benefit of preventing 1 child from going blind is all worth it.
